Origins and development

The municipal woodland cemetery is a separate site on Mainburger Straße. It is distinct from the municipal Neustift Cemetery and the church cemeteries of St Georg and St Jakob. Its Muslim burial area and two columbaria reflect different burial traditions.

The cemetery is in Freising, at Mainburger Straße 89, 85356 Freising. Its area is approximately 9 hectares.

Design and present-day character

Around 5,000 grave plots lie in this woodland cemetery on Mainburger Straße. Two columbaria and a Muslim burial area complement coffin and urn sections. The administration address on Rindermarkt is outside the cemetery.

Read this character description together with the development of Freising Woodland Cemetery: it identifies what gives the grounds their present identity without turning the cemetery into a purely historical attraction. A visit can focus on spatial structure and named orientation points while leaving individual graves undisturbed.

Connect the account with the grounds

The cemetery map contains 9 named places for Freising Woodland Cemetery. Among them are Entrance 1, Funeral hall, Waldfriedhof. Use these names to relate the historical account to locations visible during a visit, without assuming that every historical feature has its own marker.
